The low thermal conductivity of the special ceramics of the ferrules in addition to the even lower thermal conductivity of the wrapped paper allows them to minimize the temperature of tubesheet welds while allowing gas to pass through uninterrupted. These ferrules can be easily friction-fitted into the tube and held securely in place by the flow of gas, without requiring extensive installation procedures. This design allows for partial repairs or tubesheet metallurgy inspection to be carried out during turnarounds and shut-downs. Additionally, the individual installation of ferrules simplifies maintenance and repair activities by allowing for easy removal.
